The Larry and Nathan Martin Scholarship

The Larry and Nathan Martin Scholarship honors Larry Martin and his son Nathan Martin. Long time supporters of 4-H livestock programs, the Martin Family established this scholarship after the 2011 passing of Nathan.

Nathan Martin excelled in 4-H livestock programs, especially livestock judging. A 12 year member of the Valley Boosters 4-H Club, in Bucklin, Nathan earned a spot on the nationally ranked Ford County 4-H Livestock Judging Team multiple years. After 4-H, Nathan would take his livestock judging skills with him to Black Hawk Junior College, in Illinois, and Kansas State University, in Manhattan. Nathan returned often to the Ford County Fair to support and advise his nephews on their various 4-H projects. In 2011, Nathan succumbed to cancer and his family chose to honor his 4-H and Livestock Judging/Showing achievements via a scholarship to local 4-Hers with similar interests.

In 2019, the Martin Family expanded the memorial scholarship to honor Larry Martin after his sudden passing. As a 4-H parent, Larry served many years as a project leader and member of the Ford County Fair Board; while his wife Linda served on the Ford County 4-H Foundation Board. Encouraging his children and grandchildrens' love of livestock breeding, showing and judging, Larry spent many hours expelling wisdom and assistance building theirs, and other 4-Hers', livestock projects. Larry and Linda are parents to Eric, Derek, Nathan (deceased) and Phillip.
