Ford County

Ford County Fair Poultry

All poultry exhibiting at the 2022 Ford County Fair must be tested for Pullorum and Typhoid. Testing will be done on Tuesday, July 5 - from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the Fairgrounds.

4-H/FFA Poultry

  1. Judging of poultry will be done on basis of exhibition qualities, with the exception of market poultry and production birds. Market poultry will be judged on meat quality only; while production birds will be judged on egg production qualities only.
  2. Exhibition classes will be judged by breeds.
  3. Pout breed and variety on all entries.
  4. All poultry exhibiting at the Ford County Fair must be tested for Pullorum and Typhoid.
  5. Poultry must be entered on the Fairgrounds between 7:30 am and 10:00 am on Thursday.
  6. Cages will be assigned based upon number of pre-entries.
  7. If showing wild game birds (quail, pheasant, etc.), you must have proof of purchase available upon request, or license to raise such birds.

Open Class Poultry

  • Poultry must be entered on the Fairgrounds between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm on Thursday.
  • Exhibitors are limited to a total of eight entries for poultry.
  • All animals are subject to examination by exhibition staff or their representatives, and shall be free of clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease.
  • All poultry exhibition at the Ford County Fair must be tested for Pollorum and Typhoid.
  • Please see the Heat Contingency Plan for extreme weather conditions.
  • Open Class participants are expected to maintain and clean their poultry and rabbit area prior to leaving the fairgrounds and prior to receiving any premium.

Recommended Requirements for Kansas Origin Poultry

General Requirements

All animals are subject to examination by the exhibition staff or their representatives, and shall be free of clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease. Animals determined by exhibition staff to have not met listed requirements will not be permitted to exhibit. A certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI, Health Certificate), for Kansas Origin Livestock, is not required by the Kansas Department of Agriculture - Division of Animal Health (KDA-DAH), but can be required at the discretion of each exhibition event. Livestock Originating from Other States, outside Kansas, must meet Kansas import requirements and have a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.

Poultry

All poultry must meet the General Requirements. Kansas continues its designation as a Pullorum-Typhoid (P-T) Clean State. All poultry, within the state of Kansas (except waterfowl), are required to show proof of being P-T Clean by one of the following:

      • Originate from a certified U.S. Pollorum-Typhoid Clean Flock.
      • Test negative on a P-T test within 90 days of exhibition.

Poultry Originating from Other States

General Requirements

All livestock entering Kansas shall follow all KDA-DAH import requirements. The import requirement list is available at www.agriculture.ks.gov/animalhealth or by calling KDA/DAH at (785)564-6601. In addition, all livestock must meet the following requirements:

      • Be free of clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease. Animals with lesions of ringworm, warts, infested with mange or any other infectious or contagious disease, as determined by exhibition staff, will not be permitted to exhibit.
      • Be accompanied by a CVI issued within 30 days before exhibit. This must be available, upon request, to the exhibition staff.
      • All cattle, swine, sheep and goats, including steers and spayed heifers, must be individually identified by a USDA-approved ear tag (metal, 840-compliant, or premises tag), official breed registration tattoo or tag, or breed association ear notch for swine.
      • All identification numbers must be individually listed on the accompanying CVI.
      • If registration tattoos are used, the registration papers must be available for inspection, and both the FULL registration number and tattoo number must be written on the CVI.
      • All required tests must be conducted by a state-approved laboratory.
      • TB testing, if required, must be conducted by a veterinarian  who is licensed and accredited in the state of origin.
      • All animals are subject to examination by the exhibition staff or their representatives.

Poultry

All poultry must meet the General Requirements. All poultry entering Kansas, except waterfowl, must show proof that they are Pullorum-Typhoid Clean by one of the following methods:

      • All poultry except water fowl, are required to show proof of being P-T Clean, by one of the following:
        • Originate from a certified U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean flock.
        • Test negative on a P-T Test within 90 days of exhibition.
      • Additionally, out-of-state poultry must have a "Permit to Ship Poultry or Hatching Eggs" issued by the KDA-DAH office within the previous 25 days.

Heat Contingency Plan

In case of an excessive heat forecast during the Ford County Fair, the Ford County Fair Board will implement the following livestock heat contingency plan for poultry.

Implementation of the Heat Contingency Plan will be determined the week of the Fair.

Poultry/Rabbits

Animals can be released after the show. This also applies to Open Class Poultry and Rabbits.

This plan is optional and at the discretion of the 4-H/FFA family, for the exhibitor's animals to stay or go home.

Rules and Regulations

  • A veterinarian will be present for visual health inspection of livestock.
  • Each exhibitor will supply feed and feed for animals.
  • If the care of animals is neglected, the exhibitor will forfeit their premium.
  • Fans are allowed in the Poultry/Rabbit Barns.
  • Posters or signs advertising animals or items for sale at the Fair are PROHIBITED.
  • Pens and cages must be cleaned before premiums will be paid.
  • All livestock must remain on the Fairgrounds for the duration of the Fair unless the heat contingency plan is in effect. Premiums can be withheld for failure to follow this rule.
