Lawns can be converted to zoysia by plugging or adding narrow strips of sod into the existing grass. Keep the lawn mowed short (1 inch) to facilitate spreading of the zoysia. Fertilize on a schedule to favor the zoysia. It will take two to five years for the zoysia to completely take over under normal circumstance.
